How to Participate

Illiterate invites you to actively participate in the editorial process of a publication by submitting and voting on Visual and Literary reader generated creative content. Think of the online community as a place to store your portfolio, get creative feedback and submit to illiterate, all in one.

1. and create your profile.

If you want full access to the site you need a profile, whether you're an artist or an enthusiast. If you are selected for publication in the print magazine, your user name will be what's in your By Line, so if you don't want to be famous as BonerMan2008, don't use that name.

2. Pick a theme.

Need a creative kickstart? Every so often, Illiterate posts new themes to help spur dialogue amongst submissions, blog posts and featured interviews. Choose one of these broad topics as the starting point for one of your submissions, and see how your interpretation aligns, differs and interacts with those of the rest of the Illiterate community.

3. Submit.

Upload your work to one of our two main categories: Visual or Literary. Make sure your submission is in the appropriate format and follows Illiterate's submission guidelines, click submit and watch as your piece of creativity pops up on the Illiterate homepage as the most recent submission.

4. Browse Vote and Comment.

This is your chance put on the editor's hat. Remember, constructive criticism is key to creative dialogue. The votes and comments strongly influence what is selected for print, so use your power wisely.

5. Rinse and Repeat steps 2-4.
