The Next Big Thing in Graffiti

The Next Big Thing in Graffiti

Graffiti has risen to the top of cutting edge pop culture. What was once seen as vandalism is now dubbed street art. Many of our favorite graffiti artists have teamed up with big brands and now make their marks on anything from skate decks to swagged-out shoes. And who could forget the official induction of Bansky into the realm of “Stuff White People Like”? The major appeal of graffiti has been it’s edginess, attitude and it’s no rules vibe (much like the charm of a young Christian Slater). Now that graffiti has become popular, street artists have started pushing forward and developing new techniques to maintain the fresh, innovative spirit of public art. H...Read more

The Street Art Revolution

The Street Art Revolution

With a style similar to cave painting, talented street artists embrace the thoughts of a new generation by painting the walls of our Denver metropolis.  With phrases like “I was here”, “These are the words that were on my mind”, and “This is what I cared about”, the works express what fills the minds of artists who unveil their sketches onto the drab walls of urban settings in order to transform those featureless landscapes into colorful expressions.   Most are written so that one can read them without much attention or practice, but because the trend in street art is to twist the alphabet into its own language, many pieces a...Read more

Nature’s Revenge: The Street Art of Ludo

Nature’s Revenge: The Street Art of Ludo

Parisian street artist Ludo puts out some seriously wicked stuff—even on an international level. He has toured to several places including Italy and the UK to put up his work in a new theme he calls “Nature’s Revenge”.     His works are very bold and high in contrast, “boxed” almost like a 3D Playstation graphic. I love the simplicity of the monochromatic schemes combined with clever themes.     Nature meets the darker side of human nature. Incongruity seems to rain supreme when it comes to showing others a clever, and beautiful, paradigm.     his website has even more: http://www.thisisludo.com/...Read more

Laura Keeble: this is activism.

Laura Keeble: this is activism.

I like my street art like I like my coffee shops: teaming, clever—and full of intellectual activism. The art of Laura Keeble is no doubt some of the most deliciously vocal and cleverly subversive that I have seen in quite a while. This London artist must surely take hours in her working space, conjuring up new ways to snag the public’s attention. Keeble seems to be a master of emphasis: making her voice heard when it is meant to be heard, or altering things in such a way as to nearly become undetectable at first glance. I found this artist to be very entertaining; saying all the right things. Originality is also evident. Keep it up, Laura...and where can I find...Read more

Luzinterruptus: fun Guerrilla.

Luzinterruptus: fun Guerrilla.

Spanish Guerrilla street artist Luzinterruptus is a skilled craftsman when it comes to juxtaposing everyday objects with a touch of luminescent creativity. The effervescent glow of artificial lights that line the work of Luzinterruptus are incredibly ascetically pleasing—and simple (although I am sure they were probably not simple to install). The little white flags –not unlike those little plastic ones that come in many colors and do not seem to serve much of a purpose except for on the occasional construction site or pipeline—become glowing fragments of joy when the sun sets.   Context is pushed into new realms as Luzinterruptus dangles a lively display of minia...Read more

it's Greek! : the passionate rampages of Alexandros Vasmoulakis

it

“His main purpose is to communicate.” Says the portfolio website of Athens born (and fine arts educated) freelance artist Alexandros Vasmoulakis, and it seems like he really does, in numerous and sundry ways.           By taking everything from found objects to complex color schemes on with full imaginative force, Vasmoulakis makes it all look so effortless—and never ceases to entertain his audience. At heart, Alexandros Vasmoulakis really is a freelance communicator, and an expert when it comes to design and concept statements.         His style is clear when it comes to painting, and his manipulation/ inst...Read more

Beauty and puns: the street art of Señor X.

Beauty and puns: the street art of Señor X.

The comedic and concise caricatures of anonymous Spanish street artist Señor X are just as clever as they are entertaining. Despite the playful nature of most of the artist’s works, which are mainly created by means of stencils and stickers, there is a clear sense of beauty that breaks through the original idea.   It appears that Señor X has a wide range of things to say. Ranging from the barely noticeable to the very loud, this artist puts his talent to good use—and surely entertains a bulky amount of urbanites.     here are some links to more of his work: http://www.rebelart.net/diary/?p=981   http://www.mymodernmet.com/profil...Read more

The Street Art of Mark Jenkins

The Street Art of Mark Jenkins

Recently, I've had several conversations with friends regarding "street art" and found that it's apparently one of those ineffable terms that can mean something totally different depending on who you ask. Well, I'm not even going to attempt to provide any perspective on that, but what I will do is show you this ill artist I just ran across on Current.com… Mark Jenkins is doing really interesting and often provocative street work that is, quite literally, centered around the streets. I had a really hard time narrowing down what pictures to post on this blog because they're all rockin', so check out the pictures below and definitely check out his website.   Deuces  ...Read more

The Ill Art of Raymond Salvatore Harmon

The Ill Art of Raymond Salvatore Harmon

Experimental filmmaker-- check. Record producer--check. Painter--check it out!. With influences ranging from the spiritual to the occult. Raymond Salvatore Harmon's primary paintings fit somewhere between tapestry patterns and those that appear about an hour and a half into a chemically induced mindwarp. Scale and surface are the key elements with this work of wonderment. As a street artist Harmon works undefoot  laying out largescale pieces (in one instance an entire intersection in London) on the ground, where whetehr recognized, appreciated or detested they cannot be avoided.         ...Read more
