WOMEN, Gold Pants, and White Girls who Lust.

I'm still reeling from Lady Gaga’s glass and candy-coated dance party last Saturday, and if this week’s jam-packed Denver concert calendar is any indication, shit is only going to get hotter this summer.
I’ll be crossing these mamis like tic tac toe tonight at the Ogden Theater with Pitbull before heading to Rhinoceropolis for one of the best tours of the spring, Abe Vigoda and WOMEN.
Dude. If you haven’t seen LA’s Abe Vigoda yet, GO TO THIS SHOW. They sound like a fantasy vacation in Jamaica with Gang of Four, and WOMEN’s No Wave Mamas and Papas-style trippy forays are the perfect compliment. Locals Eyes and Ears, M. Pyres , and Hot White will open, filling the whole evening with sonic excellence.
Thursday? I’ll be at Less Than Jake at the Gothic Theater…because I’m a secret bro who likes music about beer, pizza, and loser friends who smoke too many cigarettes.
Friday sucks, only because there is so much going on. I had a hard time choosing between Jucifer at Bender’s with Kingdom of Magic and the Stereo Total show at the Bluebird with Leslie and the LYs! I opted for Stereo Total because I’ll be catching a few bedazzled minutes with Leslie Hall pre-show, which is so exciting I’m not sure how to keep myself together in her gold pants-ed presence. Much love to locals B.sous for setting off this evening of poppy-weirdness.
I will continue to make your weekend plans by demanding a stop at Beta’s hipster magnet Noise! on Friday night as well. The freshest dance night in many years will be bringing the dirty dirty to LoDo yet again with San Fran/Denver duo White Girl Lust and the Family Affair fashion event.
White Girl Lust’s Eric Kozak may have stolen Denver’s DJ sweetheart DreDay away to the West Coast to rep on WGL’s label, Solid Bump Records, but Kozak himself returns Friday to spin with his other half, Clay Meador.
As DJ/Production team White Girl Lust, Clay and Eric do the work so you don’t have to, mixing gritty club bangers with a taste of funk and some great rap vocals, only to ice it all down with some souped-up 90s drum n’ bass. (The WGL party vibe won’t end on Friday though, knowing Kozak’s shady nature…so keep your ear to the ground for one of his infamous secret throw downs later on in the weekend.)
Saturday I’ll be chilling out a bit with Bishop Allen and Mt. St. Helen’s Vietnam Band at The Hi-Dive. The Dive has been the spot for minimal pop and plucky folk music lately (Parenthetical Girls and No Kids, Viva Voce and Lake, and Tuesday’s The Academy is… acoustic show), and I kind of like it.
Sunday? Well, I give up.

way to throw back to the ska punk era. Dont for get, Chad, that we have a date to do lines off those strippers titties while masturbating to Beer Pong championships. Not to mention "Johnny Quest thinks Were Sellouts!"

Stereo Total is amazing; I saw them perform abroad (the same week as Juliet and the Licks, oh my...) and I really hope I'm able to see them again! Their opener Leslie and The Lys looks fun too. You're awesome, by the way. I must be out of it, because I'd never even heard of Lady Gaga previously.

babe, i dig your music blog, i think your music blog is kinda cute, i want to take it to a show and buy it a cocktail... i'm mostly and quirkily into pop/rock from 1980-1992, but you make me wanna get to know the local modern denver scene... let me know if there's any pop-leaning synthesizer-friendly Tears for Fears-inspired indie rock shows coming up, or if you'd like to read an enlightening take on Tommy Tutone's 867-5309Jenny...
