Vivier constructs a reality that seems to be hidden behind a dark veil of mystery. It is as if the viewer gets a sneek peek into one of Vivier’s dreams. In an interview by Purple gallery, Vivier said, “I’m borrowing from the imagery of the unconscious and dreams, from the art of vanitas, from magic, mythology, from an inner experience having to do with the bizarre, with fear, with the irrational, with love, while offering, especially, a personal experience of beauty.”
Of course, one would most likely only have the pleasure of seeing a butterfly perched on a glass of milk, casting an enchanting shadow on your kitchen table, only in the dream world. However, Vivier makes the dream world a reality through her photographs. Her pictures are but a window into the vast realm of the subconscious human mind. Her enigmatic imagery is personal, yet reflective of the universal collective of the many wonders of the magical and mysterious human phsyce.
