Sandra Fettingis and Andi Todaro Shoot Laser Beams!

This past Saturday I found myself eyeing some wonderful geometry from local artists Sandra Fettingis and Andi Todaro. Using similar processes both create works of Art with an aesthetic all their own. Each utilizes the power and precision afforded by a laser cutter but to different ends.
The overall gestalt of Sandra's work is that of refinement and subtle contrasts of texture and layering. Her pieces have a pristine, ordered quality and a definite fragility. This is counterbalanced by the structure inherent to the triangular and diamond shapes hewn from acrylic (edit, wood). A natural/unnatural distinction comes across with hints at natural wood beneath. Patterning can be found within many of the acrylic shapes which lends movement to each work. Finally, the orange, yellow, and white on white wall color scheme give the installation a vibrant glow.
Andi takes a different approach by cutting and engraving wood to create Order out of Chaos and Chaos within Order. Taking in the woodgrain, stains, etched patterns, and symmetry is a sumptuous delight. A nice discovery is that some of the images go against expectation confounding initial impressions. The most thought provoking aspect of the exhibit is that each piece was conceived on a computer and assembled by hand, further complicating the duality of chaos and order, perfection and imperfection. Another interesting tidbit I discovered as I chatted with Noah Price (Cream Coffee House's entrepreneurial spirit) is that Andi will not ever work in this medium again! She assured me later this was true. Essentially, “keeping it fresh” is what Andi is all about.
You can find Ms. Fettingis' work, 'this time things will be different' at Plastic Chapel, a most suitable venue. Ms. Todaro's work, ORDER/CHAOS fits right in at , where you'll find it for a limited time!
