Happy MOP Denver

Happy MOP Denver

This month the photographic community of this state as well as communities across the globe are celebrating The Month of Photography! Galleries all over Denver are a buzz with showings of photography from traditional, alternative, and digital, and everything in between. The month of events was organized by RedLine Gallery, and fun will be had all month long.

As for myself, I plan on celebrating by attempting a blog a day, highlighting the masters and the master amateurs, discussing history/theory and also technique. If there is anything you, my readers would like to know about the media, let me know and leave me a comment! There are 27 days to find out everything you’ve ever been curious to know about mi amor, photografia.

Tonight being first Friday, I thought I’d use up the 4th’s blog to discuss the some of the can’t miss openings.

Of course there is the Big Picture at Illiterate Gallery, and all over the city, so on your way to the next gallery, you can stop and see what else Illiterate has put up. There is a that Illiterate has pasted giant Xeroxed photographic submissions. Illiterate received over 800 submissions from all over the world and have been working hard to showcase them for all of Denver to enjoy outside the gallery all month long.

The other big opening is of course at RedLine which is exhibiting a group showing of class A photographers, no doubt. RedLine is also hosting events all month, including a portfolio review for up-and-coming and established photographers, print collecting workshops, and lectures from photographers working in the field.

To be shameless and exploitive for a moment, I’m starting my night up at Edge Gallery for the Traditionally Unconventional opening where my work will be featured. The group show was curated by Jessica Ellis and John Davenport and features artists who continue to work in traditional photographic media.

John Daventport is also showing at Vertigo Gallery along with other photographers who work in Diptychs.

One show that I absolutely recommend as a must see for TONIGHT ONLY! is the Voice of the Gutter show. The show was juried by the independent curator Mary Jane Jacob, who worked previously as the chief curator for the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art. The show is a guerilla exhibition of photography and was organized by a group of students who are commenting on the preparedness of art school students to make careers of their art. The show will be held in the alley near Santa Fe, the address is……

So if you’re in the mood to celebrate, get out there tonight! Maybe we’ll run into each other. Until tomorrow…
