Salutations, Project Hello 2011!

On Saturday, June 25th Redline hosted this year's Project Hello. The event presented over 40 artists, designers, musicians, and poets. Redline buzzed with introductions and activity throughout the day.
Rebecca Peebles' project guided visitors through the creation of a drawing that mapped the different kinds of visitors to the space. With the aid of colored china markers everyone was invited to color a rhombus representing themselves. As the day wore on, the paper became a colorful graphic representation of the event. People were able to work on the piece while also meeting the artist and one another.
Many food vendors were present including Yours Truly Cupcake who had many enticing treats. Other participants eschewed an interactive element, choosing instead to showcase their unique talents. Local poets gave two separate readings ranging from appropriated text from the Web via Michael Flatt to Serena Chopra's musings on contemporary life.
Jon Geiger crowd sourced three different pieces that he finally took a vote on while What The Stuff took pictures of visitors with one of their giant creations. Meanwhile, Derek Keenan showed off his stylish and vibrant skateboard-remnant-jewelry.
On top of all the other wonderful displays and happenings were the musical stylings of Bare Bones and . Bare Bones, while paired down member wise, still gave a moving performance that was fresh and melancholic. The trio Landlines delivered wave after wave of rich sound to close out the day. This was all juxtaposed with Harry Kleeman's bold cardboard house constructed of homeless signs: tourists.
Still, this article only touches on all of the fabulous people and things that made up Project Hello (it could be much much longer)... Of course everyone is a critic.
So with that in mind, look forward to Project Hello next year. In the meantime check out their posterous: http://projecthello.posterous.com/
