Sunday at Illiterate: Dr Sketchy's!

Sunday at Illiterate: Dr Sketchy

Welcome to life drawing with personality. Dr. Sketchy's monthly sessions at Illiterate are part of a world renowned series where the line between model and performer gets playfully erased and redrawn.  Every third Sunday of the month join in the fun as a new burlesque diva poses, giving character to form. For November's session the wonderfully weird Whoopsie Daisy almost bares it all.         Even if you can't draw, we'll give you coloring book pages and crayons so you can participate and feel arty too! All dry mediums are okay, as are dip pens and neat watercolor sets. No oil paints, messy or stinky mediums. Photographers are welcome as long as they d...Read more

If you haven't heard of the Bordo Bello, then you're missing out on one of Denver's most exciting annual art events for a cause. Hosted by the design organization AIGA, this event invites dozens of Colorado's prominent illustrative artists and designers to transform a blank skate deck by drawing, painting, etching, carving, and often completely changing the board itself. (Last year one designer turned his skate deck into a functioning tape deck.)  Tonight the boards will be auctioned off at Artwork Network and all of the proceeds will benefit AIGA's mentorship program, Youth Design Denver, and annual scholarship, Access Gallery, which offers exhibition opportunities and s...Read more

Down With The Sickness Too infects Illiterate with a group of Denver's leading up-and-coming art misfits. Curated in conjunction with Travis Egedy, one of the founders and residents of Rhinoceropolis, a DIY breeding ground for radical young artists, this exhibit captures a unique segment of Denver's progressive cultural landscape.Including works in various media, the exhibition explores cohesion in chaos. The follow up exhibit to the Down With The Sickness show over a year ago, artists associated in various ways with a creative epicenter on the edge, express their transgressive reactions to the current order seen as contaminated and polluting, while simultaneously sharing in a collec...Read more

The Enchantment of Camille Vivier

The Enchantment of Camille Vivier

Camille Vivier is a French filmmaker and photographer who studied Fine Art in Paris and at Central St. Matrin’s in London. Her photography has been featured in magazines such as Purple, Dazed and Confused, i-D...     Vivier constructs a reality that seems to be hidden behind a dark veil of mystery. It is as if the viewer gets a sneek peek into one of Vivier’s dreams. In an interview by Purple gallery, Vivier said, “I’m borrowing from the imagery of the unconscious and dreams, from the art of vanitas, from magic, mythology, from an inner experience having to do with the bizarre, with fear, with the irrational, with love, while offering...Read more

Paul Fusco, somber in the summer

Paul Fusco, somber in the summer

I came across this recent exhibition in L.A. of Paul Fusco, who was present on the RFK's funeral train in the summer of 1968. Just like any good photographer would, he documented the journey from NYC to Arlington, near D.C. I find the perspective interesting, a ride along a funeral prosession for a president who never was...            ...Read more
