Ill Film Night: Pick The Flick Contest #1

Ill Film Night: Pick The Flick Contest #1

Distracted Easily? Impatient? A Huge Deuchcock? (skip this section) That's right, I'm back. Vincenzo Valentine, aka the great Vinny V,  once again lowers my standards and returns to the cesspool of talent called Illiterate. For what reason do I grace this puke bowl of regurgitated schlock and derivative drivel with my presence? Why would I once again waste my valuable time interacting with a bunch of circus freak creative hacks like you? Go f*$# yourselves, that's why.   For those of you who know me from my days running the Illiterate Caption Contest-- you disgust me like a festering puss bubble, and I'd like nothing more than for my four year old son Little Anthony to p...Read more

For his return to Colorado at Illiterate, Riss brings with him a selection of his mind altering black and white creations including a never before seen body of work, limited edition prints and an exclusive Illiterate artist's series...Read more

Opening Tonight!: Ideal Woman at Hinterland

Opening Tonight!: Ideal Woman at Hinterland

Denver artist Allie Pohl presents her Barbie molded body of work titled Ideal Woman: 36: 24: 36  tonight at Hinterland gallery which runs until April 23rd. Andrew Hoffman wrote a nice interview on the 303 blog. Here's the intro: I first encountered Allie’s work last November at the “Where the Wild Things Art” show at Illiterate. I was very intrigued by her series of ceramic sculptures that depict the lower torso of a barbie doll. According to Allie, her objective in her art is to critique cultural trends that she finds impractical or destructive to the female form, and that her work falls into the category of feminist satire packaged in a post-modern wrapp...Read more

Art Opening: "SUPER RELATIVE" tonight at Lisa Kowalski Gallery

Art Opening: "SUPER RELATIVE" tonight at Lisa Kowalski Gallery

Lisa Kowalski Gallery opens tonight with "SUPER-RELATIVE," featuring work of prolific gatherers Samuel Schimek and Andrew Novick. After last years impressively overwhelming collection of collections show, "The Astounding Problem of Andrew Novick," Novick releases yet another example of fascination and depth in numbers. Tonight Novick teams up with Schimek to display work in patterns, something overtly present in any and all collections, especially that of his own. This time Novick releases a stash of consumption memories, all celebratory cakes which he helped eat in the past 20 years. I heard about how many of these cake photos were included but I think it will be best to witness the abundan...Read more

I Miss Mystery - Mario Zoots at Illiterate

I Miss Mystery - Mario Zoots at Illiterate

How Mario Zoots' speaks about his images, how he looks and speaks about others' work, is painstakingly important. In not only aesthetics, but also in the all-out war he's staging against our new ventures of pop culture. What people mean to one another, what an image can and of course will become, what obsessions and means to wholeness the art world must go to to achieve a satisfaction of absolutes. These are philosophies Mario accomplishes with 'Zine etiquette, video swagger, and racked-off-the-shelf magazine rearrangements.   There's a modern mystery to the internet. Facelessness, identity obscured by text and syntax, re-appropriation & distribution of images and video. In the su...Read more
