2010 PBR Art Show at Illiterate

Why do creative people like PBR so much? Because it's smooth and refreshing? Because of that nostalgic blue ribbon won at the 1893 World Fair? Because it's as cheap as we are? Questions for the ages. However, now there's another reason for the thirsty artist in you to appreciate that classic red, white and blue can -- it could pay you.Pabst is giving away a grand prize of $1893, plus a year's worth of beer to 4 artists across the nation who create masterpieces inspired by it's most famous brew- Pabst Blue Ribbon.Come support Denver's artists as they display their submissions for this year's PBR Art contest at Illiterate and Indy Ink.Music:Josephine & the Mouse PeopleJonathan + BproLIve A...Read more

Over the Weekend: Delirium Wave 2 Opening Photos and Video

On Friday night, things got steamy inside Illiterate for the opening of Delirium: Wave 2. The reinstallation of photographer Mark Sink's personal collection included ten new artists and nearly double the amount of art from Wave 1. For this second round Mark built further on the sense of the show's ecstactic confusion not only by increasing the quantity and variety of work, but also by displaying it in a salon style stacked manner, like a refrigerator door covered in high concept photography and painting. Before the crowd arrived, Marak's Dog Utah gave the room one last inspection. Mark's sole choice of street photographs in the exhibit came from this nefarious fel...Read more

Better Late Than Never: Where The Wild Things Are:
A friend of mine who directs films once told me, "no matter what you do on a shoot, feed your workers". I didn't know exactly what was so important about providing snacks to actors until I found myself filming with a five year old for this Where The Wild Things Art . We kept Max happy and pliable with a constant supply of his favorite food: pushpops. If you're wondering who the Illiterate Max. His name is Armani and the little boy that plays Max. If you're wandering who the little boy is, his name is Armani, the son of artist and illiterate's drywall expert, Stephen Alerid. He hung out with us on a late November Sunday chasing and being chased by me, Joe and Sander, as the...Read more

Illiterate Gone Wild

Apparently the word spread about the opening last Friday of Illiterate's debut exhibit: Where The Wild Things Art. The people came, and came and came and kept coming until the hallway at 82. S Broadway looked more like a busy bus terminal than an art gallery. In many ways Friday night's opening was another Illiterate arts event - doors opened at 7PM, renovations ended at 8PM and the place was packed with inquisitive faces by 9PM - the paramount difference from our past bashes; when we said goodbye at the end of the night, we could do so with a hospital farewell, "come back anytime". Below you can follow the course of the event from the lenses of Rachel Paton, Broox Pulford and Gloriann...Read more

Illiterate Grand Opening! = Where The Wild Things Art

About the space Five years ago, Illiterate began as an arts and literary student group and publication at the University of Colorado Boulder. Two years later, after it and many of the staff graduated, Illiterate grew to include an interactive online community of creative individuals submitting content for a chance to get published. As of October 2009, Illiterate now occupies a multifunctional two story facility. That's right, we have a zip code! Located in Denver, Colorado's historic Baker district at 82 S. Broadway (click for map), Illiterate's new HQ serves a number of creative uses: as an art gallery, artists' studio, and the center of operations for Illiterate's interactive web...Read more
